Anti-Syrian, anti-refugee pogroms are taking place in Türkiye. Right now as I speak.
My paternal family is from Türkiye. My paternal family is indigenous. My paternal family are survivors of genocide and pogroms.
All I can think is why? What did any of our people do that we should deserve such fascistic violence continuously and consistently being leveraged against us? It’s so difficult to not feel utter hopelessness.
The Syrian people have suffered so much for so, so long, whether that be at the hands of their own torture dictatorship, invasive entities like my maternal family’s terrorist state, host countries to which they fled for some sliver of safety and life only to instead be received with racism and violence, or through having their suffering appropriated and relabelled with another people’s pain.
All in silence.
Türkiye, as a state, is a genocidal, fascist settler colony.
Please say something. Please look, at the very least.
Syrians deserve to live.
