MUTUAL AID SPOTLIGHT
Help an individual with type 1 diabetes afford insulin.
I was recently reached out by an individual in my community seeking mutual aid support to pay for the insulin they need for their type 1 diabetes.
This is an extremely serious autoimmune condition often requiring insulin for mere survival, as the immune system is inappropriately activated to destroy insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells which thus obliterates the blood glucose regulation capacity of the body.1
As a someone in the health field (dermatology scientist), and a chronic illness sufferer myself, the cost of insulin has always been disgusting to me, even if I do not reside in the US where it’s especially egregious. This system literally gatekeeps us from being able to live.
